A laptop is a small portable computer. It is a battery of AC powered personal computer that is smaller than a briefcase and can be easily transported and conveniently used in temporary spaces like airplanes, parks, and libraries. Generally, a laptop weighs less than 5 pounds and is 3-inches or less in thickness. They’re designed to be more portable than traditional desktop computers with many of the same abilities. Moreover, laptops are able to fold flat for easy transportation and equipped with a built-in keyboard and touchpad. Ultra-portable & notebook laptops:

Ultra-portable & notebook are even smaller than laptops. They sacrifice their capabilities, performance, peripheral ports, because of their size and price point.


Like desktop computers, laptops also have ports and other interfaces such as USB ports, network interface cards, audio speakers, digital media drives, and memory card slots which are built-into the laptop by manufacturers. However, additional peripheral devices may be connected to the laptop through available expansion slots, USB ports, or serial ports.


A laptop also has several ways of connecting to a network. However, a wireless or WiFi connection is the most means of connecting a laptop. In addition, laptops also have Ethernet ports that allow them to connect to a local area network (LAN) through an Ethernet cable.

A Bluetooth connection in another way for a computer to communicate with external devices and other computers. For example, a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse can be connected wirelessly to a laptop. A laptop can also connect with a smartphone via Bluetooth to access the internet over the mobile network. This is commonly referred to as tethering.
